"Empty Nest" is set in Miami and tells of the day to day misadventures of a widowed pediatrician, Harry Weston, and his two adult daughters, Barbara and Carol Weston, who have come back to live with him after failed marriages. Much of the humor is derived from Barbara and Carols' ongoing attempts, and failure, to find the perfect partner, and once again leave the "nest".

[show]Though not an official adaptation of remake, the series was partly inspired by the British Sit Com Father, Dear Father, which was about a single father living with his two daughters and owning a large dog. However in the British series the father was a Divorcee, not a Widower, and the daughters were teenagers as opposed to grown women.
