Captain Kangaroo was a popular children's show that ran from 1955 to 1984, excluding a 1964-1965 break.The show was built around life in the "Treasure House". The Treasure House was where Captain Kangaroo would tell many stories, meet many new people, and do silly things with other characters of the show. The Captain had large pockets in his coat, which was where he got his name.

- The JACK AND THE BEANSTALK routine, featuring the Captain and the Town Clown suffers a flaw in that Jack would not need to say "Hello, my name is Jack" to his own mother.
- Most network shows were broadcast in color by the mid 1960s. CBS did not convert the Captain's early morning program to color until 1967.
