Trivia Facts | Top Quotes | Goofs/Mistakes
  • In the pilot, Temperance says the next closest forensic anthropologist after her is in Montreal, one of the places the original novels are set.
  • Temperance Brennan is an anthropologist who writes about the character Kathy Reichs in her spare time. In real life, Kathy Reichs is an anthropologist who writes about the character Temperance Brennan.
  • Almost every time Booth, played by David Boreanaz, is in front of the camera he has on him a watch, his FBI ID, a holstered sidearm, a Zippo lighter, Craps dice, a $100 poker chip, a floaty pen (the type where a girl's clothes fall off when you turn it upside down), 3"x5" index cards, his light brown sunglasses; and he is wearing a St. Christopher medal. All of these items can be spotted being handled by Booth throughout the series.
  • SPOILER: Angela Montenegro's middle name is thought to be "Pearly Gates" which is the name of a guitar belonging to ZZ Top member Billy Gibbons, who plays Angela's father in some episodes. However, when she marries Hodgins (S5 E21) it is revealed that her legal name is not the name she has been using. She whispers it in to the ear of the judge marrying them but he does not repeat her name.
  • Eric Millegan, who plays Dr. Zack Addy, a grad student younger than the other scientists, is actually one year older than T.J. Thyne (who plays Dr. Jack Hodgins), two years older than Emily Deschanel (who plays Dr. Temperance Brennan, his teacher), and four years older than Michaela Conlin (who plays Angela Montenegro).
  • Up to season 3, Special Agent Seeley Booth has handled a Glock 17, a Magnum .357, a two-tone S&W Sigma (commonly misidentified as a Glock, both pistols look and function nearly identical, however Glock does not produce two-toned pistols), and a Tokyo Marui Hi-Capa 5.1 (Airsoft replica) with a tactical flashlight attachment, along with a Colt .22 back up weapon. While Doctor Temperance Brennan has handled a Colt .22 in 'The Pilot' where she shot a suspect as well as on several occasions to back Agent Booth, a very large Smith and Wesson M500 .50 Revolver in season 2, and Booth's Tokyo Marui Hi-Capa 5.1 Airsoft Replica when she shot Booth's stalker.
  • T.J. Thyne appeared in 3 episodes on the final season (2003) of Angel, which starred "Bones" co-star David Boreanaz.
  • The Royal Diner, where Brennan and Booth (and occasionally the other characters) go to relax after work really exists in Washington - but the one in New Jersey (on Route 31 North), not the District of Columbia.
  • T.J. Thyne, Carla Gallo, Tamara Taylor, Michael Grant Terry, and Pej Vahdat have appeared on "NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service" (2003) but on different episodes; Michaela Conlin appeared on the series from which NCIS was spun off, JAG
  • There have been several references to Agent Seeley Booth being a "direct descendant" of John Wilkes Booth. In reality, is is highly unlikely that John Wilkes Booth had any direct descendants. As the assassin of Abraham Lincoln and the first-ever assassin of any U. S. president, Booth's life history has been exhaustively scrutinized by generations of historical scholars, and there is absolutely no evidence that he ever married or fathered any children, legitimate or illegitimate. Several of John Wilkes Booth's brothers and sisters did have children, but in genealogical terms, to be a *direct* descendant of J. W. Booth, Seeley Booth would have to be descended from a child of his, and not just a niece or nephew.
  • Angela's father is played by ZZ Top member Billy Gibbons, and there have been several indications that the audience is supposed to understand that her father *is* Billy Gibbons (albeit a fictional version of Gibbons, since Angela is herself fictional). Although Angela's dad has never been given a name, before his first appearance Angela told her friends that her father is famous enough that they might recognize him immediately, and during Gibbons' appearances, there have been several references to the music of ZZ Top.
  • The establishing exterior shots of the "Jeffersonian Institute" are filmed on the Exposition Park Rose Gardens side of The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.
  • Both Carla Gallo (Daisy Wick) and Joel David Moore (Colin Fisher) appeared in the same episode of "House M.D." (2004) {Act Your Age (#3.19)} but did not have any scenes together.
  • Emily Deschanel finished shooting the first part of Season 7 on September 19th. She went into labor the next day, giving birth to son Henry on September 21st.
  • Originally, the weight they'd give the victim who was exactly like Brennan on "The Doctor in the Photo" would be 20lbs less than the weight that aired. Emily Deschanel had read the script and called the producers, asking them to put the weight closer to the reality.
  • Bones works at the Jeffersonian Institute. There is no such place in Washington DC. However, the name is probably a play on the Smithsonian Institute. Shots of the outside of the actual Smithsonian are often used in the show also.
  • Daisy Wick is the name of one of the secondary characters. Daisy Zick is the name of a real-life murder victim from Battle Creek, Michigan in 1963. The crime remains unsolved.
  • Caroline Julian, played by Patricia Belcher, is the only guest star to appear in every season.
  • Emily Deschanel's sister, Zooey Deschanel (Elf) has appeared on the episode The Goop on the Girl in season 5. She appeared as Temperance Brennan's second cousin Margaret from Wisconsin.
  • SPOILER: John Francis Daley needed four months off to direct "National Lampoons Vacation." Since there was no good way to give his character the time off the first episode of season 10 has Sweets being killed off from internal bleeding after an altercation.
  • The first character that appears in episode one of the first season is Angela Montenegro (Michaela Conlin).
  • 'Ryan ONeal, who plays Bones's (Emily Deschanel) father is an Academy Award Nominee. In real life, the actress's father, Caleb Deschanel, is a nominee as well.
  • SPOILER: In season 10, it is revealed that Angela's birth name is Pookie Noodlin.
  • In "Gamer in the Grease", Sweets, Hodgins, and Fisher all take turns camping out to get tickets to see the movie Avatar. Joel David Moore, who played Fisher on "Bones", played Norm in Avatar.
  • SPOILER: The establishing shot of Seely Booth's apartment (which his Grandfather almost burns down) shows him living in an apartment above a liquor store called Sportsmans. This is a real apartment and liquor store in DC on Mt Pleasant Street.
  • Dr. Jack Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) wore his wedding ring on his left pinky.
  • SPOILER: Every child born to a main character on the show is named after a close friend or family member who has died as a way to honor their memory. Booth's oldest child (from a previous relationship), Parker, is named after Teddy Parker, a fellow sniper and close friend who died in Booth's arms in combat. Angela and Hodgins' son, Michael Vincent, is named after squintern Vincent Nigel-Murray who was murdered shortly before Angela gave birth. Booth and Brennan's first child, Christine, is named after Brennan's mother, who was also murdered. Sweets and Daisy's child, Seeley Lance Wick-Sweets is named after Booth and (Lance) Sweets, who was murdered before his child was born. And Booth and Brennan's second child is named Hank after Booth's deceased grandfather, who raised him after finding out that Booth and his brother were being physically abused by their father (Hank's son).
  • In Season 11, the actress who plays Christine is Sunnie Pelant. The same last name as the serial killer, Christopher Pelant, in earlier seasons.
  • Renewed for a 12th and final season on February 25th, 2016
  • David Boreanaz and T.J. Thyne have worked together before. T.J. played a Wolfram & Hart lawyer on the season 5 premiere of David's previous show "Angel" (1999, Joss Whedon). Angel ended the year before Bones premiered.
