Episode Quotes

Meyer Lansky: [talking to Nucky about Luciano and him] Last year we made more money than the President of the United States.
Jake Guzik: I'll be out in a week. I only missed three pickups.
Al Capone: You get your strength back. I'm gonna slip one of these nurses a fin. Get you a nice little sponge bath.
Frank Capone: Make it a couple of nurses. -There's a lot of Jake to sponge down.
Arnold Rothstein: I find you don't really know a man until you play cards with him.
Enoch 'Nucky' Thompson: Don't we know each other, Arnold?
Arnold Rothstein: One would have thought so.

  • Goof (anachronisms): When the Capone Brothers drop off George Mueller/ Nelson van Alden to his partially built ''pre-cut house'' there is building rubble, saw-horses and a toolbox visible on the sidewalk outside the house. No tradesman or even an amateur would leave a toolbox outside and susceptible to being stolen.
  • Goof (anachronisms): Narcisse mentions Marcus Garvey's deportation in this episode set in 1924. Garvey wasn't deported to his native Jamaica until 1927.
  • Goof (audio/visual unsynchronized): Early in the episode O'Banion is shooting a double-barreled, side-by-side shotgun which must be re-loaded by opening the breach to remove the spent casings. Immediately after he fires it, the sound of a pump-action shotgun (which is reloaded by "racking" the slide beneath the single barrel in order to eject the spent shell casing and insert the fresh round) is heard. This mistake is repeated before the end of the scene as O'Banion threatens Nelson Van Alden.
  • Goof (audio/visual unsynchronized): Dean O'Banion is using flowerpots for target practice with his double-barreled shotgun. The sound of a slide actuation on a pump shotgun is heard, when no slide is present on O'Banion's shotgun.

  • The book title that Eli mispronounces as "Tess of de Erbiless" is actually the classic "Tess of the D'Urbervilles" published in 1891 by English author Thomas Hardi (1940-1928).
  • The Knife and Fork, the Atlantic City restaurant where Eddie takes Ralph Capone to eat, is still standing.
  • The Garvey that Narcisse refers to is black nationalist Marcus Garvey (1887-1940), whose provocative teachings caused him to be eventually jailed and deported.
