BIOGRAPHY:

Katherine Jenkins is a Welsh lyric mezzo-soprano. She is a popular classical-crossover singer who performs across a spectrum of operatic arias, popular songs, musical theatre and hymns. After winning singing competitions in her youth, Jenkins studied at the Royal Academy of Music, modeled and taught voice. She came to wide public attention in 2003 when she sang at Westminster Cathedral in honor of Pope John Paul II's silver jubilee.

Released in April 2004, Jenkins’ classical chart-topping debut album “Premiere,” was a mix of old standards including “Ave Maria” and “The Lord Is My Shepherd,” plus a smattering of traditional Welsh songs and new interpretations of classic tunes by Handel, Bach, Erik Satie and others. The album made her the fastest-selling mezzo-soprano to date. Her second album, “Second Nature,” reached #16 in the U.K. later in 2004 and she became the first British classical crossover artist to have two #1 U.K. Classical albums in the same year.

Jenkins’ next album, “Living A Dream,” followed in 2005 and held the #1 position on the U.K. Classical chart for nearly one year and reached #4 on the U.K. Albums chart. Her fourth album, “Serenade,” was released in November 2006 and reached #5 on the U.K. Albums chart selling more than 50,000 copies in its first week, a record in the genre.

“Rejoice,” her fifth album, was released in November 2007 and included songs written specially for her. It entered the U.K. Albums chart at #3, beating the Spice Girls and Girls Aloud. In October 2008 Jenkins released, “Sacred Arias,” which was her last album with Universal Music. It peaked at #5 on the U.K. Albums chart.

Shortly after, Jenkins signed the biggest classical recording deal in history, for $10 million with Warner Music. Jenkins released her seventh album, “Believe,” in October 2009, the first with Warner Music, and featured Andrea Bocelli and other musicians like André Rieu and Chris Botti. “Believe” became Jenkins seventh consecutive #1 album on the U.K. Classical chart, while also reaching #6 on the U.K. Albums chart. Her second album for Warner Bros., “Daydream,” followed in October 2011. It peaked at #6 on the U.K. Albums chart.
