Alan Dale, best known for his 8 year role as Jim Robinson in the long running Australian TV show Neighbours, played Caleb in the hit FOX series The OC (2003), featured on Lost (2004) and has a long list of recurring roles. These include 24 (2001), Navy:NCIS (2003), The West Wing (1999), ER (1994) and The X Files. His film credits include After The Sunset (2004), Hollywood Homicide (2003) and Star Trek: Nemesis (2002).

Dale has extensive theatre credits, has hosted his own radio shows and is a successful voice-over artist in both Australia, the UK and the U.S.

  • Along with 'Simon Pegg' (qv), 'Daphne Ashbrook' (qv), 'Guy Siner' (qv), 'Maurice Roves' (qv), 'Olaf Pooley' (qv), 'Barrie Ingham' (qv), 'John Franklyn-Robbins' (qv), 'Christopher Neame (III)' (qv) and 'Deep Roy' (qv), he is one of only ten actors to have speaking roles in both the "Star Trek" and "Doctor Who" franchises. He played Praetor Hiren in _Star Trek: Nemesis (2002)_ (qv) and Dr. Aaron Copley in _"Torchwood" (2006) {Reset (#2.6)}_ (qv).
  • All three of his best known characters (Jim Robinson of _"Neighbours" (1985)_ (qv), Caleb Nichol in _"The O.C." (2003)_ (qv) and Bradford Meade in _"Ugly Betty" (2006)_ (qv)) were written out of their respective series through fatal heart attacks.
  • Son Simon Dale is a radio presenter for one of London's most popular stations "Kiss 100" (3-6pm).
  • He is the only actor to have appeared in the fictional TV Cabinets of both President Jed Bartlet (The West Wing, played by Martin Sheen) and President David Palmer (24, played by Dennis Haysbert). On The West Wing, he plays Mitch Bryce, the Secretary of Commerce. On 24, he played Jim Prescott, the Vice President, who voted to remove the President from office temporarily using the 25th Amendment, on the West Wing he agreed to the President's temporary resignation.
