So you grew up in Missouri and graduated from the University with a marketing degree, what were your plans for your life once you graduated? And how did you make it out to Orange County?
"I definitely knew I was leaving Missouri right after college. I had my first job on the East coast and the West coast right around college graduation time and I was just going to wait to see where I ended up. I first ended up in New York and my plans were to become a part of the marketing team for Sprint PCS because that was the biggest no carrier that Missouri had at the time. I thought it was going to be the greatest job ever, but my life took a different turn."
What were you doing right up before you joined The Real Housewives of Orange County?
"I had just had my twins. They were six months when the Housewives came to me and asked me to be a part of the show. Obviously casting took a little bit longer than that, but by the time we actually started filming they were closer to 9 months or a year. I was just being a stay at home mom. I was just enjoying my life of changing a lot of diapers and feeding twins."
Once you were on the show, what was your experience with Bravo? Did the show change your life for better or for worse?
"I feel the show has changed my life for the better. We have had so many opportunities because of the show. I was a part of the Real Housewives family for four years and it was a crazy dysfunctional family, but we all loved each other. I am very thankful for the opportunity to have been a part of the show for so many years. I do think that a lot of additional stress came into my life because of the filming, and its nice being able to take a break and get back to the Alexis I was, but it was fun and I do miss the girls. I miss Vicki. I do see Vicki and Lydia sometimes, but I saw them a lot more before."
How did the show end up selecting you?
"The selection process has changed since then. They are a lot pickier now because a lot of women want to be on the show. To be honest, we knew Jeana Keough. when I was coming on the show. We met her at a charity event in Newport Beach and we saw her that night and she came up to me and said, "I hope you don't mind, but I turned your name in to the show and they may be calling you." Sure enough, they called at 8:00 am the next morning. I think it is mainly word of mouth. They want to have women who already know some of the people in the group."
What did filming look like for you?
"Well they come over and they will say that filming is from September to November, what does your schedule look like? You will let them know all the important things you have going on in your life and then they will go into more of a weekly schedule. They will ask if you can film from 9am-4pm on Monday or you give them times when you are free. It's not like they just come in and start filming, it is a very planned out thing."
Since you are a Christian, did you ever run into any issues with your faith and the show? Were you ever put in a compromising position?
"Absolutely. One of the reasons I probably wasn't asked back this season was because I did say no to a lot of things and events. I knew I couldn't put myself there because it went against my beliefs. Like Tamara's bachelorette party, I was supposed to go to that, but I couldn't go. It went against my marriage. My husband and I agree that we don't go on bachelor/bachelorette parties, so if there is a conflict like that I stick to my guns an follow my heart."
You were not originally going to be on season 8, what changed your mind?
"The issue in season 7. It was hard for me because I didn't know the women were feeling that way about me and I didn't know Costa Rico was going to happen. It was a pivotal point in my life because I have never been treated like that before. I quit because of that and I didn't think I could emotionally handle another season. Whenever filming stopped and I had a month or two off, I had a chance to look back on the issue. My son has soccer and always wants to quit and I won't let him. What does that tell my children if I quit? So when they came back and asked me to come back on the show, I had already been thinking 'how do I tell my kids about this?' I didn't want to set that example, so when they asked me I said yes. You get caught up in it, every one on the show does. It is an emotional roller coaster at times and you think 'how am I ever going to do this again?' But whenever you have some time off it's like being pregnant, you go 'ok I could do this again and I want another baby!'"
If you had to pick one thing about the show that you missed, what would it be?
"The fun times you have with the girls. There is a lot of fighting and now it looks like they are trying to make every single episode have some kind of a fight in it, but when I first started the show it wasn't like that. There was a lot of fun times and a lot of laughs. That is what I miss."
If there was one housewife that you wouldn't want to be stuck in an elevator with who would it be? Or who would you want to be stuck in an elevator with?
"I know this is a boring answer, but I am going through all the housewives in my mind and I don't think there is one housewife I wouldn't want to be stuck in an elevator with, because everyone has something quirky or fun about them and I think I would bring that out with them in the elevator. I love Vicki to death. We always go on double dates with her and she is a crazy crazy cat. I would love to be stuck in the elevator with her!"
What does the future look like for you?
"Well my Alexis line with Tal Sheyn is no longer happening because my partner moved to India, but I do still have my Alexis Couture line that is still on my website. I haven't designed any new outfits lately and I know a lot of people have been wanting the black braided maxi dress back so I have considered that. For the past 5 months I have just been enjoying time off. I'm shopping, working with my charities, eating lunch with friends, and I have just really been enjoying it. I haven't decided if I really want to start working again, but my husband and I have been pursued by some reality TV shows and we haven't found a perfect fit yet. We aren't looking to be on TV, but if something else happens we are very open to it. My husband and I are opening two more Sky Zones at the moment. We are going to have two total in San Diego. We currently have one open in Anaheim and one in Chula Vista and we are opening on in Northern California and one in Westminster."
