Movie Trivia/Goofs

  • (27 October 2010) The Aston Martin DB5 used in this movie (and Goldfinger) was sold - fully "loaded" - to American classic car collector, Harry Yeaggy, for a reported $4.6 million by London's RM Auctions. The car had only one previous private owner, an American radio station owner named Jerry Lee, who purchased the car directly from the Aston Martin factory in 1969 for $12,000. Lee had kept the car at his Pennsylvania home for over forty years.
  • Movie Goof (revealing mistake): SPOILER: During the final fight scene aboard the Disco Volante, the boat is racing through rock-filled waters, continually missing large rock outcroppings at the last moment (at least one of which is shown twice). But even though both Bond and Largo at times try to steer the boat away from the rocks, it's shown going at such high speed, and so close to one rock after another, that it would be physically impossible to steer it away from the rocks at the very last moment, as repeatedly happens during this sequence.
  • The dictionary definition of the word "thunderball" is that it was a military term used by US soldiers to describe the mushroom cloud seen during the testing of atomic bombs. Hence its use as a title because this would be result of SPECTRE detonating the stolen atomic bombs. In a case of life imitating art, the codename for the 1976 Israeli operation to rescue hostages held in Uganda was called "Thunderball" and named after this movie.
  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When Bond is at Shrublands, and is checking out his neighbor's room (the bandaged man), his hand jumps in and out of his pocket between shots when he hears the door open and hides behind the door.
