  • Goof (continuity error): When Dobbs finds the well, he is ahead of the donkeys. Next shot he is behind them.
  • Goof (crew or equipment visible): During the fight with the bandits, a shadow of a crew member is visible against Tim Holt's shirt for a few seconds before he goes to check on the condition of Cody.
  • Goof (revealing mistake): When Howard and Curtin pursue Dobbs, they pass a "dead" donkey left by Dobbs. The donkey is breathing and the ropes used to tie its legs are visible.
  • Goof (revealing mistake): Curtin reads Cody's letter out of sequence. He starts on the front page, then opens to the inside pages. He glances momentarily at page #2 on the left, but immediately starts to read page #3 on the right. He then reads page #2 before turning to the back page.
  • Goof (anachronisms): Although set in Mexico in the 1920s, many of the cars on the street in the Tampico scenes are of 1930s and 1940s vintage.
  • Goof (continuity error): As Dobbs mutters to himself, Curtin walks between Dobbs and the water race. When he gets to Howard and the water tank at the top of the race, Curtin comes in from the other side of the water race, despite there being no crossing point between Dobbs and the tank.
  • Goof (anachronisms): In an early scene when Dobbs is getting a haircut, an automobile flashes past the window of the barbershop. It appears to be a late 1940s sedan.
  • Goof (plot holes): When Curtin arrives in Durango for supplies, the Federales are questioning Gold Hat and a member of his gang. It's implied they are executed, as we here gunshots, and Cody explains to Curtin how the Federales go about their justice. Yet these "executed" men appear later in the film.
  • Goof (errors in geography): There are background noises from wildlife in parts of the movie. One of which is the unmistakable call of the Australian kookaburra.
  • Goof (incorrectly regarded as a mistake): During the gunfight with the bandits, Howard refers to the newcomer as Cody. But at the end of the gunfight, he asks "Wonder who he is?" and uses the newcomer's wallet to identify him as James Cody. However, Cody gives his name to Curtin at the General Store. Curtin briefed the boys when he got back. Howard wondering who he is really means Howard wanting to know more about Cody.
  • Goof (miscellaneous): When Howard is translating for the Mexican, he claims he is warned that there are tigers that can climb trees with birds in their mouths. However, the Mexican says no such thing, only giving a warning of the rough terrain ahead.
  • Goof (continuity error): Fighting their way through the bush, Dobbs passes through a section where the branches have been cut by Howard in front. Then around 10 seconds later the shot of Howard actually cutting through that section is shown.
  • Goof (continuity error): After Curtin is shot, he is on the ground bleeding from a shoulder wound. When Dobbs goes back to the same place in the morning, there is no sign of blood on the ground.
  • Goof (crew or equipment visible): As Dobbs is looking around trying to find Curtin's body so that he may bury it, he runs into some bushes. As the camera pans to follow him you can easily see where the set ends. A clear space with a light and some sort of water truck is plainly visible
  • Goof (plot holes): When Curtin, Howard and the Indians are riding into Durango, they pass the water hole where Dobbs was murdered. They should have seen his body.
  • Goof (revealing mistake): When Gold Hat slashes at Dobbs with his machete at the waterhole, the exact scene is repeated. This editing error is explained in the Trivia section.
  • Goof (continuity error): When Howard is laid on a hammock, being served by Indian women, he has a little bunch of flowers on his left ear which disappear in subsequent shots.
  • Goof (incorrectly regarded as a mistake): In the opening shot of the poster, the word "febrero" ("February") is spelled with a capital F. In Spanish, month names may or may not be capitalized.
  • Goof (revealing mistake): Glaringly obvious use of doubles in the barfight scene to replace Humphrey Bogart, Tim Holt and Barton MacLane.
  • Goof (revealing mistake): During the gunfight with the bandidos at the gold mine, Dobbs runs out of bullets while firing his rifle. He is shown reloading it just as the shooting stops. With absolutely no sound coming from the film, Dobbs fires the rifle(trigger pulled and hammer falls) but no noise or muzzle blast is shown. Some may call it a misfire, but there is no sound as the hammer falls and Dobbs would have reacted to a misfire. Just another case of bad editing.
  • Goof (continuity error): During the fight with McCormick in the cantina, the position of Dobbs' hat on the bar rail changes at least twice.
  • Goof (continuity error): When Howard is trying to revive the Indian boy, there is nothing around the boy. Later a calabash gourd appears on his left side and changes position between shots.
  • Goof (miscellaneous): The wind storm blows away the gold - one of the heaviest minerals on earth, but does not blow away the empty sacks.
  • Goof (crew or equipment visible): When Dobbs goes back to bury the body, he runs around looking for it, then trips over. As he does so he practically falls off the set, as visible to the left are a large water tank and a hose.
  • Goof (continuity error): In subsequent scenes Gold Hat's sombrero is missing the bullet hole that Bogart shot into it at the mountain confrontation.
  • Goof (continuity error): When they are looking for gold, Curtin and Dobbs stop to rest, and Curtin puts the stick on his right leg. Immediately after, without his having moved, the stick is leaning on his shoulder.
