Movie Trivia/Goofs

  • Movie Goof (continuity error): When Stanley wakes up to Lt Kellaway banging on his door the mask is in his hand and laying half on the corner of the red pillow, half on the green bed sheet. But in the close up he's in a slightly different position and the mask is now in the middle of the red pillow and you can't see his hand at all; then it swaps back again.
  • The banana-yellow suit that Jim Carrey wears is based on a suit which his mother made for him for his first attempt at stand-up comedy.
  • Movie Goof (revealing mistake): In the scene when Stanley talks to Milo from the jail-cell window, you can see closely when he lets go of the bars they bend and flex a little.
  • An original script idea was for Stanley to meet the street gang that he later encounters as the Mask earlier in the film, getting mugged and having them steal his watch. This is why when his landlady asks him if he knows what time it is, he says, "Actually, no." The scene was likely shot since at least one trailer featured Carey saying to the gang "I have no money" while listing other things he doesn't have. This scene is not in the final movie. As written, he would've offered him the mask, not knowing it's power. Instead the gang just roughs him up and he goes home, which is why he's in shambles in the next scene.
